In order to achieve success, we cannot rely on old methods and routines. Growth comes when we step outside our comfort zone and explore new opportunities.

The same is true for our minds- in order to be more intentional, we must expose ourselves to novelty and challenge.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss the power of these two concepts and how they can help us train our brains to be more focused and effective.

When it comes to learning and growth, newness is essential.

According to a study published in the journal Neuron, something as simple as exposing ourselves to new things can increase our attention span and overall cognitive function.

The study found that when participants were exposed to unfamiliar stimuli, their brains worked harder to process the information- leading to improved performance on tests of focus and attention.

This research highlights the importance of novelty in sparking brain activity and promoting growth.

In order to take advantage of this finding, we should make a point of studying new things in our area of interest.

Whether it’s reading articles or books outside our usual genre, attending workshops or classes on topics we’re curious about, or simply talking to people with different backgrounds and experiences, there are plenty of ways to expose ourselves to new information.

The more we learn, the more our brains will be challenged and stimulated- leading to improved focus and productivity.

While novelty is key for learning and growth, the challenge is also essential.

In order for our minds to grow, they must be pushed beyond their comfort zone on a regular basis.

This can be done in a number of ways, but one of the most effective is through deliberate practice.

Deliberate practice involves setting specific goals, practicing with intentionality, and seeking feedback from experts in order to improve performance.

When it comes to developing our mental skillsets, this type of approach is essential.

Challenge also plays an important role in helping us maintain a growth mindset.

A growth mindset is a belief that intelligence and abilities can be developed over time- something that is essential for personal and professional growth.

According to research from Carol Dweck, individuals with a growth mindset are more likely to embrace challenges, persist in the face of difficulty, and learn from their mistakes.

This type of attitude enables us to continue growing and developing our skillsets, no matter what life throws our way.

The power of novelty and challenge should not be underestimated when it comes to training our brains to be more intentional.

By exposing ourselves to new information and pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zone on a regular basis, we can create an environment that supports lifelong learning and growth.

With a little effort, we can train our brains to be more focused and effective- allowing us to achieve our goals and dreams with ease.

Until next time this has been your coach Andy.
